Details:

With recent movement and volatility in gilts markets, albeit with challenges around LDI strategies, providing a silver lining for many schemes of improved funding levels, what should schemes now be considering? Is their target journey plan towards a risk settlement solution such as buy ins, buy out or even consolidation now closer to being achievable? Or should they also now perhaps consider moving towards run-off?

Some key areas considered included:

  • Buy in/buy out/consolidation – which options are now achievable and available?
  • What are the main practical challenges in doing any risk settlement solution?
  • Implication of interest rate and market volatility for your strategy going forward for your intended journey plan?
  • How should schemes be treating longevity risk now and should they be considering longevity swaps in the current climate?
  • Different approaches to risk settlement or run off?
  • How should schemes be considering their illiquid allocations?
  • If buyout is not achievable due to capacity issues, should scheme be targeting run-off and if so, what does it mean for your strategic asset allocation now?
