The Pension Trustees Circle was established in July 1999 with the purpose of improving the quality of information available to pension fund trustees leading to the development of more effective trusteeship, improved scheme performance and a better understanding of the risks and responsibilities involved in the trusteeship of Occupational Pension Schemes, whether Defined Benefit or Money Purchase Pension Arrangements.

By bringing together pension fund trustees with service providers, robust and objective discussions have become the norm. A key requirement for all non-pension fund members and speakers is that product or services selling is not permitted.

The Circle holds three main residential meetings each year at prestigious venues, two within easy reach of London, usually in January and July, and a further seminar in the north within easy reach of Leeds, usually in September. Additional events include a special Summer Party in June, an International Seminar in September and an Open Forum & Reception in early December.

There are two categories of membership, one comprising experienced trustees and quasi-trustees of corporate and local authority pension funds, and the other representatives from service and product providers to the DB and DC markets.

The Forum is advised by an Advisory Committee, comprising only pension fund representatives, who ensure that the topics being discussed are relevant and helpful.
