Independent Trustee, Retirement-On-Line Pension & Provident Funds
Leslie Rencontre is Director of the Electricity Services Department for the City of Cape Town which will form part of the first regional electricity distributor (RED1), established as part of the restructuring of the electricity distribution industry in South Africa. In 2001 he was Executive Director at Palmer Development Group which is a private sector consultancy focusing on public sector research, policy and strategy development. In 1999 Leslie was Commissioner of Cape Town Unicity Commission. Prior to this he was a City Councillor for the African National Congress (ANC) where he Served as Chief Whip and member of Executive Committee, Finance Committee and Economic Development Committee. He started his career as Lecturer at the Department of Mechanical & Process Engineering in Cape Technikon. Currently Leslie is also an Independent Trustee for Retirement on-line Pension and Provident Fund since 2001 which are private sector defined contribution umbrella funds. In 2006 he was Chairman of REDS Pension Fund which was a new Defined Contribution pension fund established by the first South African regional electricity distributor. Prior to this Leslie was Chairman of Cape Municipal Pension Fund. Between 2004 and 2005 he was Special Project Advisor at Municipal Retirement Fund Transformation Project: South African Local Government Association (SALGA). Leslie holds a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering and a PhD in Computational Mechanics from the University of Cape Town.
